JOB SUMMARY:
Incumbent will also function as a “floater” between the three modalities (Radiology Tech, MRI, and CT). If incumbent is not trained in all three modalities, training will be provided in one modality in order for incumbent to be proficient in all three areas.
Independently performs routine to moderately complex radiographic and computed tomography examination procedures. These exams are achieved by using diagnostic x-ray equipment such as fluoroscopic units, direct digital units, general diagnostic units, bone density unit, and computed tomography scanner. Performs computerized tomography of the head, neck, spine, chest, and body. These exams are performed with and without the use of contrast materials. The purpose of these exams is to achieve diagnostic studies to bring about proper diagnosis and treatment. The incumbent will discuss any case that deviates from normal protocol set by the radiologist. Assist radiologists in fluoroscopic examinations. Prepares and administers contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist for the purpose of performing exams requiring injectable solutions such as CT scan exams and for the purpose of performing oral and rectal exams of the GI tract. With training and under supervision of the radiologist, establishes IV access and administers IV contrast. Observes patient for signs and symptoms of adverse contrast reaction and initiates the appropriate response for varying levels of severity. Prepares contrast materials for cystogram, fistulograms, and arthrography. In the case of injected media, a patient consent form must be obtained. These procedures require the use of needles, syringes, injectors, non-ionic contrast media, barium, enema bags and drinking cups. Responsible to the radiologists and supervisor for the quality and quantity of radiographic exams performed in order to assure a high level of acceptability of radiographs while minimizing patient dosage and reducing costs. May be required to perform bone densities studies.
