
Microsoft: Senior Business Intelligence Manager
The mission of Microsoft’s Treasury organization is to ensure the value of Microsoft global financial and physical assets, provide capital, and optimize risk/return. Treasury manages Microsoft's diversified portfolio of assets and oversee foreign exchange, corporate finance Credit & Collections and risk management.
As a key component of the organization the purpose of the World Wide Credit & Collections group is to maximize protection of Microsoft’s investment in Accounts Receivable (A/R) while supporting efforts to expand Sales and increase market share. There are two world-wide Credit & Collections groups with the Treasury organization; this position will support the World-wide Online Credit Services (WOCS) group.
Summary:
With the fast growth of the business and the significant number of change initiatives in Microsoft’s on-line business, there exists within the WOCS organization a new opportunity for a Senior Business Intelligence Manager, reporting to the Director, WOCS, to lead strategic change in a dynamic environment.
This role is an important position within the WOCS organization and offers the opportunity to influence Microsoft policy as it relates to the direct and indirect function of the group. The individual will have direct responsibility for developing insightful executive reporting and metrics. The individual will provide detailed analysis and generate concepts to dramatically improve productivity. The successful candidate will drive communications about the overall effectiveness of the WOCS team to senior management and effected business owners.
The role will have a significant focus on the effective leveraging of available information to provide trend analysis and leading indicators to enable better decisions. This will lead to a high level of responsibility for implementing ongoing business insight initiatives. This individual will provide the WW Credit & Collections Leadership Team with reporting and insight to assist them in managing outsource vendors. The development and presentation of trend data be critical to help the WOCS team in long term strategic thinking designed to improve the organization.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the WOCS business planning process. It will be important to drive and support key planning dates and events for monthly and quarterly business reviews and annual planning. The role including delivering business plans for WOCS after working with leadership from EMEA, APAC, North America and LATAM, as well as Corporate Finance and other internal groups on the planning process and schedule, budget and monitoring performance to budget.
The individual will work with the teams within WOCS through the development of business processes, business scorecards, and overall leadership coordination. The successful candidate will create a more effective management process, enabling effective leadership interactions, determining frequency and level of project updates, metric reviews, etc.
The individual will lead cross-organizational strategic planning and special projects on behalf of leadership. Development of key presentations and memos including all hands meetings, customer/partner/vendor presentations, industry presentations, strategy memos and planning memos is essential.
The position requires an individual who understands how to get things done in a large, complex organization through influence and collaboration, and has broad business background or diverse product experience. It also requires the ability to understand how to improve the way things get done through effective planning and process improvements.
Responsibilities:
Microsoft Communications - Develop and leverage relationships and deliver effective cross-Company communication at a senior leadership level within Microsoft. Partner with key organizations within Microsoft and it’s vendors to accomplish stated objectives, including Treasury, Operations (Business Management), Finance (Corporate Accounting, Audit, Control, Channel Accounting, Tax, Subsidiary Controllers and Financial Accounting), Sales (Subsidiary General Managers, Account Management, and Divisional Leaders), Legal and Commercial Affairs, Engineering, and Product Development.
Business Strategy Development - Combine worldwide learning and strategic company initiatives to support strategy definition for each fiscal year. Help lead the effective execution of these strategies while ensuring alignment with the company objectives.
Business Execution - Drive high quality group execution against plans and according to Treasury operational commitments. Oversee the global WOCS budget and ensure that the group stays within budget guidelines and provide leadership during the budgeting process.
Manage critical cross-group dependencies at a senior management level as well as helping to drive vendor performance. Work with the Director, World-wide Online Credit Services to define comprehensive and effective executive reporting. Develop and create reports, define appropriate service level measurement plans and drive critical analysis.
Enable prudent and necessary business decisions by preparing and presenting insightful analysis. Manage cross-organization projects, drive corporate directives as well as internal change initiatives (often Business Process Re-engineering) across WOCS. Ensure SOX compliance is achieved and recommend policy changes as appropriate.
Create a more effective management process for the WOCS Leadership Team; run effective staff meetings, instigate and drive strategic thinking off-sites, determine the frequency and level of project updates and metric reviews, group reviews etc Organize client and customer interactions, including the creation, collection and review of presentation material and at times delivering the communications directly Represent the WOCS leadership team, strongly supporting the viewpoints in meetings as appropriate.
Direct broad communication within the organization; develop organization communication plans, processes, etc.
Provide support for acquisition and new business integration, including planning, documentation, expertise and insight.
Manage cross-org recurring processes such as all-hands meetings, off-sites, promotions, recognition, rewards, etc.
Requirements
Degree in Business /Finance/Accounting/Economics or similar; MBA preferred Management experience; preferably in a multinational or advertising company
Excellent analytical skills
Experience in setting and communicating change and strategy across complex organizational structures Demonstrable communication skills working with all levels of the organization preferably within a multinational environment
Ability to drive logistics of complex assignments and change initiatives
Strong change management and process improvement experience
Strong influencing skills
People management experience: while there are no current direct reports in this position, it is likely that the successful candidate will have experience managing large functional groups, driving monthly staff meetings, monthly reports, and works extensively with leadership direct reports.
